Product Description

ASTM A252, formally titled the "Standard Specification for Welded and Seamless Steel Pipe Piles," is the primary standard that covers nominal (average) wall steel pipe piles of cylindrical shape. This specification applies to pipe piles that function either as permanent load-carrying members or as shells to form cast-in-place concrete piles. The standard is expressed in both inch-pound units and SI units.

Pipe piles under this specification can be manufactured as both seamless and welded products. Welded pipe piles include Electric Resistance Welded (ERW), Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded (LSAW), and Spiral Submerged Arc Welded (SSAW/HSAW) types. ASTM A252 is classified into three distinct grades:

  • Grade 1: The lowest strength grade, typically used for projects requiring lighter load-bearing capacity.
  • Grade 2: Intermediate strength grade offering balanced performance for medium load-bearing applications.
  • Grade 3: The highest strength grade, designed for heavy-duty piling applications requiring maximum load-bearing capacity.
